Subject
In Egle, one of his Odi barbare (Barbarian Odes), the poet Giosuè Carducci (1835 – 1907) sketches a scene of ruined tombs along the Appian Way, covered with ivy and laurel and shrouded by the “grey clouds of winter” (v. 1).
